On Thursday 09 June, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau celebrated the release of the first-ever MICHELIN Guide Miami, Orlando and Tampa during a live ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando where Greater Miami and Miami Beach were awarded 11 of the 15 new MICHELIN Stars, including the only Two-MICHELIN-Star restaurant, L’ Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami. Twenty-nine restaurants in the three cities were honoured with the Bib Gourmand designation, and Miami had the only restaurants who received special awards in the Sommelier of the Year and Exceptional Cocktails categories. In total, 65 restaurants in Greater Miami and Miami Beach were recognized, representing more than half of all the restaurants in the new Florida MICHELIN guide.
The ceremony follows the announcement made last November by the GMCVB and the state’s leading tourism entities to partner with MICHELIN and bring the prestigious culinary guide to Florida.
“In recent years, we’ve seen an influx of quality culinary concepts coming to Greater Miami and Miami Beach, further positioning us as a leading, world-renowned dining destination,” said David Whitaker, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We’re delighted to partner with VISIT Florida and our colleagues in Orlando and Tampa to introduce Florida’s first-ever MICHELIN Guide. This prestigious honour serves to solidify Miami and Miami Beach as one of the most sought-after business and leisure travel destinations in the world.”
The MICHELIN Guide conveys its restaurant reviews through an extensive system of distinctions. The MICHELIN awards are considered the very best in each city and provide immense prestige and honour to local restaurants and chefs. Inspectors award One, Two or Three stars to exceptional restaurants. One Star is awarded for "high quality cooking that is worth a stop," Two Stars are awarded for "excellent cooking that is worth a detour," and Three Stars are awarded for cuisine that is “worth a special journey.” The Guide not only recognizes restaurants that are awarded star ratings, but also categories such as the Bib Gourmand, which recognizes restaurants that serve great food at an affordable price, and the MICHELIN Green Star, which is given to restaurants that are at the forefront of sustainable gastronomy.
“Despite the challenges of the last couple of years, the growth our local culinary industry can be credited to our community’s resilience,” noted Whitaker. “Miami is not only an international destination, but also a melting pot of cultures with food being key to showcasing the different traditions from around the world that call Miami and Miami Beach home. Securing the MICHELIN guide helps us showcase the expertise of our local chefs and highlights their innovative styles on an international platform. We are delighted to celebrate the 15 restaurants, chefs, and their teams that have received this prestigious recognition.”
The full 2022 selection of the MICHELIN Guide Miami, Orlando and Tampa, restaurants will be available on the MICHELIN Guide website and on the MICHELIN Guide App, available for free on iOS and Android, where users can research the selection of restaurants as well as hotels.
